Christmas Decorations 2011 Questions Answered!
- Do you wish it was christmas again?
I love the holiday season. The music, the happy people, decorations, shopping, family and friends, baking, and eating the delicious food. It is such a cozy time of year and makes me feel warm inside and a little less depressed (I have bipolar). anyway, I am tired of the cold but I wish it was the holiday season again. Do you miss it? I do!!! cant wait for Christmas 2011.

- I miss Christmas:'( I miss all the excitement and believing... I don't want to grow up!!! :'(?
I miss Christmas soooooo much. I was excited for Christmas 2011 since September and I would count down the days :) I just loved the holiday, being with family and everyone being so happy. I love the decorations too. Now, I feel like it just went away, because it didn't really FEEL like Christmas. There was no snow, I didn't feel the "magic"... I don't know. I'm 13 by the way. I want that feeling again... I want to be a little girl again.... Help:( (I'm feeling really sad about growing up...)
- What's christmas like in your country?
Here in Iceland on the 1st of december they start showing on TV a kids show that is aired everyday until December 24th. The show is literally called "The Christmas Calendar" (Jóladagatalið). Normally, every episode is about 5 minutes long but it's never the same story every year, they either make a new show every year or show older episodes that have been shown some years before. The episodes they're showing this year was actually made in Denmark and is called "The Christmas Calendar 2011: The Pact. (Jóladagatalið 2011: Sáttmálinn). It's about a kid that helps some elves find a pact that will kill some evil elf queen. Well enough of that. December 12th kids put a shoe in their window to get a present from one of the Icelandic santa clauses, called The Yule Lads (Jólasveinarnir). We have 13 santa clauses. Every night, from 12th - 24th december they put presents in the children's shoes, like candy or small toys, but if the kids behaved badly they will give them a potato, which kids don't like. That's why most kids behave well this time of year. In case you're confused it's actually their parents that give them the presents ;), but the kids don't know that. On December 23rd, many Icelanders have a skate (a type of fish) for dinner. It's an old Icelandic tradition. Christmas is actually celebrated on the 24th, not the 25th. All day until 6 pm on the 24th, everybody waits for christmas to start. A few minutes before 6 pm, you can hear ringing church bells ringing on the radio and on the tv. Then when they stop at exactly 6 pm, a man says "Good Icelanders, merry christmas" (góðir Íslendingar, gleðileg jól). Then kids open the present their mom and dad gave them, and then we eat. Some people eat lamb meat, some eat pork and some eat ptarmigan meat which is very popular on christmas. Then after we've washed the dishes after dinner we open the rest of the presents, from relatives and friends. We don't get any gifts from the American Santa Clause. Usually at my home my parents film us opening our presents, and I'm sure some people do too. We still have tapes older than 10 years old of me and my siblings opening presents. The presents are kept, while still in the christmas packages, under the christmas tree. Some people have a fake tree and some people have a real tree. Christmas ends at the end of january 6th the next year. called "the 13th" (Þrettándinn), the 13th day of christmas. At that day we light a bunch of wood and stuff and make a big fire. Usually one fire in every town (towns are really small in Iceland expect for Reykjavík, which is not a really big city when you think about it. My town only has about 1000 habitants.) People stand by the fire and some some men are hired to shoot fireworks near the fire. We also have fire and fireworks on december 31st, the last day of the year. Now i have explained almost everything about christmas in Iceland, expect for a few things like decorations and that but yeah. What's christmas like in your country? (I know you won't be able to explain it in a very long way like i did.)
- Would glow-in-the-dark decals in my dorm seem childish?
So I see a lot of girls like decorations with the Christmas lights in their dorms, like this: http://luxechandelier.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/dscn1386-300x225.jpg http://www.collegefashion.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/christmas-light-decorations.jpg But I kind of see that as a clutter... so I wanted to buy glow in the dark stars (I don't if in color or simple colors) and put it on the wall next to my bed, sort of like this: http://media-cache-ec0.pinterest.com/upload/268738302734705232_pwC4IY4Q_b.jpg http://i-cdn.apartmenttherapy.com/uimages/ohdeedoh/110110glowindarkstars.jpg But not too many. I don't know, I kind of find them cute! What's your opinion?
- Renting nightmare! Help!?
Approximately march 14 or 15,2011 my boyfriend and I moved into a house for rent. About April 8-10, we noticed water pooling under steps and notified landlord and landlords brother(who was in charge of maintenance) who came to home 3 days later and blammed leaking on furnace, however questioned due to odor. About a week later bought washer and dryer. Installed washer, ran a few cycles without any problem until noticed washer stopped when spin cycle hit. Basement was continueing to pool under steps and notified maintenance problem still existed and reported issue with washer. Maintenance man advised me that water wasnt fernance but is was dishwater/ sink water. I specifically asked is flooding could break washer and more important was water sewage water and he strongly said no no, just kitchen sink, promised he would snake that drain. Purchased yet another washer, low and behold after ONE cycle same issue. dirty water pooled in washer and would not spin or drain. Called maintenance, voiced concern and need for action. Landlord voiced plumber would be there that Sat, didnt show until Monday. Basement smelling awful, Monday came home to smelly roots on basement floor and all dirty water drains connected to sump pump. MSD in front yard that Wednesday 5/21/2011, advised sewage hasn't met sewer in about two years due to roots, basement WAS flooding with sewage water and more than likely was sewage water in washer. Not to mention have a serious urinary tract infection. Now two washers later, lied to by maintenance, Over a month of dealing with feces water, no sign of replacement of washer, remeimburstment for ruined clothing mattress Christmas decorations etc. I do not have renters insurance however I would like to know what to do and where to go from here? Do I asked for rent off from time issue evolved without timely action? Another washer? Should I contact a lawyer?
- Do you have to have a contractors license to paint a neighbors home in Calif?
I have been doing little handyman jobs for a neighbor for the last couple of years. I have worked for her at her estate where she resides and at her mountain home in the community where I live. All of the jobs were in the $300.00 to 400.00 range. She has always been happy with my work and I never have had a problem getting paid. I agreed to repair some drywall, texture coat her ceilings and paint the interior of her mountain vacation home last winter. In the process I slipped in the ice in front of her home, injuring my back and had to go to the hospital. After a month of recuperating, I finished the job January 15, 2011. She originally agreed to reimburse me for all materials I purchased plus my labor. Material cost was $265.00 and my labor was cost was $450.00. She hadn't returned any previous phone calls or my correspondence in almost a year. I finally confronted her yesterday to ask her why she has been avoiding me. She agreed that the job done was satisfactory, but claims that personal property was missing from her home: a comforter, a lighted christmas decoration and a used chain saw all valued at about at $150.00. She also claims that her pipes froze sometime during the winter and is blaming me for not shutting off her water. I was diligent regarding winterizing her home even when I left the job site after my days work. I believe she is fabricating these excuses in an effort to not pay me. Her next door neighbor told me she was at her cabin at least three times during the winter after I completed my work. When I told her I was going to take her to small claims court, she warned me not to pursue any action because I don't have a California contractors license and she has expensive attorneys that will sue me for doing unlicensed work. My question is can I litigate in small claims court for any part of my labor and/or the materials I purchased. I also incurred $1250.00 in medical expenses because of my back injury. What are my options?

- Is this rude when wedding planning?
My fiancé and I got engaged last year in October after a year and half of being together, on December 3rd the first week summer and last week of spring the weather was beautiful so we decided to have our wedding on that date in 2 years. So December 3rd 2011 as we needed to save and I don't want to get married while still at University. We rang our caterer and venues and have penciled it in, but my fiance and I have to save the deposit. Now I have always had problems with my future sister in law, but I try to remain level headed so I want to know if she is being rude in this situation. My sister in law (SIL) met a boy at a christmas party and started to get to know him. We had our engagment party in February and she brought this boy along and decided that at our engagment party they would tell everyone they were going out, spend the night making out up the back of our engagement party and not buy us an engagment present or even a card. Well in june my sis in law and this boy decided to get engaged, they have booked there wedding for this year, but for 4 days before our wedding date for next year. I then found out recently as we have friends who are the same that she is considering having the same wedding colour as us (she knows what our colour is) and I have been collecting metal goblets and the mother in law has been helping me, so I find out also through the rumour mil she has decided to give her guests metal goblets. I am really angry, Is this unjust? I cant talk to her about it as she never directly addresses me the only time she talks is when we are in a group situation with our friends and no one notices she never talks to me directly. Also I do not want to be told it does not matter about the date or the colours or decorations, as It really is not about that its about the fact that my future SIL attitude to me. What should I do? should I change my stuff (even though I have already brought it) should I go ahead with it ( the nearly same date, both garden out door ceremonies, same colour, some of the same decorations, thats all I know so far thats similar) Should I see if she will sit down with a mediator at our church and get her to talk about why she dislikes me so much?
