Ideas for a homemade christmas tree decoration?

I need to make a xmas tree topper (decoration for the top of the tree) for a competition and I don't know what to do. It can be anything...a star, an angel, santa......and it needs to be made completly from scratch. please help

Details:

  1. Make a star made of popcorn and other bright things!
  2. make a santa hat first cut red fabric strips four by one inch take a cone of cardbord and a larger cone of red fabric so some hangs over glue the strips on so part od it is dancling down cover as you like (the red fabric cover with red fabric stirps) glue on furry stuff at the botten and tile of larger red cone remember to have the larger red cone and cardcord cone gluded together.
  3. EASY CUT CARD BOARD INTO SHAPES OF STARS, ANGELS, SANTAS, THEN WRAP IT WITH PRETTY CHRISTMAS COLORS, OR COLOR IT WITH MARKERS. YOU CAN ADD LIGHTS ON IT AND FOR SURE YOU WILL WIN!! GOOD LUCK!! (^-^)
  4. Cut out two identical cardboard stars and cut identical smaller stars into them. Cover them with something shiny like wrapping paper or smooth tin foil. Make a cone, cover in the same shiny material and glue the bottom of the stars onto it parallel to each other so the holes match up. Dont glue the stars togather! Get some throwies (small LED lights that are powered by batteries and can be glued to anything, there are youtube videos on how to make them aswell) Make up the lights and glue them in between the two stars so you see the coloured lights through the holes and the edges. Glue or make something to hold the stars in place and cover the gap between with clear cellophane or cling wrap. Voila, a tree topper :)
  5. If you grew up where I did, you could kill a squirrel and stuff it. Use the recipe for hard tack: http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,hard_tack_candy,FF.html Now make something shiny and colorful and light can shine through it. It will look like glass if you use yellow food coloring. If you have a cookie cutter, cut a desgin out before. If not cut two 2" by 12" stripes for a cross. A star would be easy to make too. Just make 5 of these stripes and tie together or melt together. Or you can make a star of cardboard and dip it into the hard tack. If the hard tack is all broken up, you could make something out of cardboard and glue the hard tack to it. Another thing you could use is paper machee. Blow up a balloon. Put news paper on it with flour. Let it dry. Pop it and decorate it. If you leave the bottom paperless, you would have a hole for it to sit on the tree. If you made three and clue them together, you could make a snowman. Good luck.
